STAGE stands for Stagecoach Travel: Glasgow-Edinburgh and it’s a project as much about stagecoach travel of the 18th century as it is about practicing techniques of scholarship. I’ve chosen to focus on the growth of the road system between Glasgow and Edinburgh (in both directions, of course) in the 1700s, and the coaching ecosystem that developed to convey people between the two cities.
